Diáspora's Bonguero, Hector "Harry" Hincapie, from Colombia, has Latin rhythms in his blood. He worked for 10 years as lead percussionist for Paloqsea, a Latin American theatre company in Barcelona performing annually in LatinAmericando in Milan. In addition, he has worked with the Tutalis theatre company on the Cavais de Menorca Production and has worked as a music teacher. Since relocating from Barcelona to London, Harry produces and plays kit for Tiger Music Entertainment, one of the UK’s hottest emerging professional party bands, and will be opening tomorrow night playing cajon with Fiesta Latina. Lilli, multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and pioneer of the "Chambomba" groove, is perhaps most well-known as percussionist, pianist and vocalist in Penya, a band blending Colombian and Latin influences with dance music, rock and electronica, who recently launched their self-titled album to great acclaim. No stranger to the London Latin circuit having played with several salsa bands, and in addition to being a natural phenomenon and whirlwind of talent, Lilli has made frequent trips to Cuba where she has studied with some of the world's leading bands and percussionists. Dave, master drummer, accomplished arranger and percussion section leader is one of the founding members of Diáspora. Dave and Rory met at the RNCM - Royal Northern College of Music where they put together a one-off 19-piece band supporting Bassekou Kouyaté, and they have been playing together since 2009. Dave is an experienced artist in his own right having directed his own salsa band and working with many orchestras and ensembles across the UK. Dave contributed to some of the writing on Diáspora's upcoming album and leads a burning hot Bateria. #boom #boom Artist Focus: The Horns
In the run up to tomorrow's A celebration of Cuban music at The Jazz Cafe featuring Diáspora 12-piece band + Fiesta Latina + Havana Club cocktails, we're running an artist focus on the players joining us for the night. You may recognise these likely lads from yesterday's snapshots in where they were sighted marching (or moon-walking shall we say) a samba procession from the church to the registry a few miles from St Albans UK. These are the four guys who recorded the brass on Diáspora's upcoming album. Rory's love of fiery Latin rhythms, cool Brazilian harmony and sultry lyricism; Olly's soulful sax lines; Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance graduate George and Guildhall School of Music & Drama graduate Tom make this the ultimate 4-piece brass section! #brass #horns #fanfare #marchingband JUST ANNOUNCED:
