30 October / 19:00 / More Info / Buy Tickets

Channeling the spirit of the vibrant island, the Jazz Cafe presents An Evening In Cuba.

It'll be a night of thrilling music, dancing and will feature some of London's finest Latin performers.

Performing live are Diaspora and Fiesta Latina, with their shared vision to unite the rhythms of the Americas, their music is uplifting, inspiring and unifying.

Diáspora is a London-based Latin band bringing you a one-way ticket to the music of the Americas. The 12-piece lineup (3 vocalists, 3 percussionists, 4 brass, piano and bass) lends itself to an expansive big band sound without losing the dynamism and spark of a small group, and combines sensuous vocals, sophisticated horn lines and explosive percussion solos... With their vision to unite the rhythms of the Americas, their music is uplifting, inspiring and unifying, celebrating the diversity of cultures that arose out of the African Slave Trade, whilst focusing on the Cuban, Brazilian and globalised salsa sounds which have become significant musical languages and forms of solidarity and cultural exchange among communities throughout the world.

Fiesta Latina recreates the sizzling, scorching sounds of Latin America and the Caribbean with an uplifting sound which is inspiring and unifying, mixing salsa with other influences to bring you a fresh, funky and instant Latin house party experience. With its compact 4 piece line-up of vocals, piano, percussion and trumpet, Fiesta Latina distils a vibrant + stylish mix of salsa, funk, soul and samba, from Cuban classics and laid back Brazilian beats right through to the present day.

Tonight, Diáspora took us on a journey through the music of Brazil. From the samba-reggae of Caetano, to the funky MPB of Djavan, to the rich Bossa Nova of Jobim and many more...

We experienced the insatiably, sensual Brazilian Zee Filho, the radiance and finesse of Alexandra Soto, the tour-de-force of Cléa Thomasset, a Saudade underpinned by the incredible Balança (side-to-side swing) of Diáspora's rhythm section - Will, Will and Harry, and with Rory on sax, flute and clarinet...
