Over the next few days, I'll be running a little featurette on Red & Black Music's 4 projects. 💛❤️💜💙
First up 💛 the big band Latin explosion that is Diáspora has been going for almost 11 years!! 😱 Started at the RNCM - Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, the 12-piece lineup (4 vocalists, 3 percussionists, 3 brass, piano and bass) lends itself to an expansive big band sound without losing the dynamism and spark of a small group and combines sensuous vocals, sophisticated horn lines and explosive percussion solos. Now based in London, Diáspora has sold out The Jazz Cafe on 2 occasions as well as performing around the country gaining critical acclaim from some of the UK's top salsa promoters and dancers. Last year we released Latin fusion album "Supersalsanova" and this year we're excited to be working on our Cuban dance album (title TBA). 🎧 We're so immensely proud of what the band has achieved. Bring on the next decade!! 🎤🎹🎸🥁🎺🎷💃 Check out our updated website www.diasporamusic.co.uk, sign up to the FACEBOOK PAGE www.facebook.com/diasporamusic and prepare to be united in the Latin beat. Boom Boom!! 💥💥 #diaspora #unitedinthelatinbeat #salsa #latin #latinjazz #timba #salsacubana www.diasporamusic.co.uk www.facebook.com/diasporamusic 🎵 Tooting in Streatham, el estudio en fuego! #diaspora #unitedinthelatinbeat #salsacubana ardiendo en el horno caliente con Tom Harrison #trompeta#cocinando www.tomharrisontrumpet.co.uk www.diasporamusic.co.uk A small child’s imagination is easily captivated, and for Tom it was the sonorous colours of the brass on the many CDs that his parents used to play that got him excited every time. With an ancestry of brass-banders it was in the blood, and seeing bands playing around Frampton Cotterell was what made him say, “when I grow up, I want to play the trumpet."
And here he is laying down some screaming lines on Diáspora's upcoming album. Escalera Al Infierno ("Stairway To Inferno") the song referenced in the above is a somewhat extreme song. It goes from talking about magma pumping out of the Earth's core, rising through the mantle and breaking through to the crust in Verse 1 🌋 to majestic snow-covered mountains with ice, crystals, air and water in Verse 2 🏔 Well, this is a song discussing the geology of our planet. A song of ice and fire indeed. 🔥❄️
