It's Rory from DIÁSPORA. I hope that you're well. I'm emailing partly to send you some DIÁSPORA updates, but also to tell you about DIASPORA COLLECTIVE.

An explanation of DIASPORA COLLECTIVE...

DIASPORA COLLECTIVE is a brand that will continue to manage the band DIÁSPORA, plus affiliated jazz and world music projects that work with DIÁSPORA.

Often, people are interested in booking DIÁSPORA, but they are organising a smaller event or festival under a limited budget, so they request if we can provide something smaller. DIÁSPORA is a 'big band' by its very nature, an individualised setup that has developed its own unique repertoire and style. At the same time, we want to be flexible/versatile, whilst not compromising on quality assurance. Therefore, we believe that it makes sense to offer affiliated projects whilst working under the DIASPORA COLLECTIVE brand at no extra charge.

DIÁSPORA is the band. DIASPORA COLLECTIVE is everything that sits around the band. DIASPORA COLLECTIVE includes the comprehensive management, marketing and promotional systems that we have developed for DIÁSPORA, plus extra services including arrangement, commercial, contractual, educational and technical solutions aimed at strengthening artist-agent relations, whilst supporting artists, the music and everything that we believe in. It encompasses the related skills and talents of our band members, unified under one brand.

DIASPORA COLLECTIVE is NOT an agent. It is the management that sits between the bandleader / director and the agent. We will NOT be adding commission and the existing prices for DIÁSPORA will NOT change. Therefore, none of this really changes anything for you - except that you will be using this new email address:

DIASPORA COLLECTIVE is simply a formalisation of what we have been doing all along. If anything, it will expand on what we have done already with the band. Its activity focuses on taking the music and telling everyone about it - through excellent quality audio, photos, videos and written materials, and providing streamlined management systems. This way, we can adapt and automate the same procedures for all of our work saving time on administration so that we can get back to focusing on the music!

We have some brand new videos up on our YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/diasporacollective. These include a 10-minute short presentation about the DIÁSPORA band, together with some longer live features recorded at Prestwich Festival in June. Let me know if you would like me to send you any of these.

We will be launching a dedicated website towards the end of the year, which will set out everything that we do, and the related costs. In the long term, we plan to API integrate our new website with our central operational database, which means that users (agents/clients/promoters and band directors/members) will be able to log in and check up on the status of enquiries at their leisure.

We will shortly be updating the DIÁSPORA promotional PDF, and also providing a DIASPORA COLLECTIVE information PDF in tandem with our new website.
