1. Salsa Pianists, Diáspora

Diáspora is looking for freelance Latin piano players based in London and the south east of England.

Diáspora is our established 5 - 12 piece Latin salsa production. The sheet music is fully charted out in arrangements. You will be synchronising closely with the bassist. This role demands strong chart reading and interpretation skills, and a thorough experience of salsa and Latin music playing styles and structures. The production covers a wide range of repertoire; traditional and contemporary salsa, Latin jazz and popular music, Brazilian music and original compositions. Diáspora requires strong Latin pianists to call on for engagements in London and further afield.

This role places a strong emphasis in 2 experience areas: 1) salsa and Latin music playing styles, 2) jazz and chart reading.

Essential:

1. Thorough experience of salsa and Latin music playing styles and structures. This includes:
   1. Differentiate and play in either 2:3 or 3:2 clave.
   2. Replicate Guajeo (montuno) piano arpeggiated figurations from a chord sequence.
   3. Effectively alter the figurations between son and montuno sections.
   4. Effectively alter the inversions between montuno and mambo sections.
   5. Maintain a solid Guajeo while the percussion and bass vary the groove and texture.
   6. Switch between different grooves and claves.
2. Thorough experience of jazz and chart reading. This includes:
   1. Knowledge and understanding of jazz harmony.
   2. Meticulous chart-reading skills, especially in structural geography.

Desirable, but not essential:

• Can provide own equipment
• Can drive or has access to a car

2. Deputy Male Vocalist, Diáspora

Diáspora is looking for a deputy male vocalist to front the 11-piece band in St Albans on 06/08/2016.

Requirements

• London-based
• Must be available on 06/08/2016
• Ability to sing from memory in Spanish, Portuguese and / or English
• Experience of salsa and Latin music, including improvising Prégones
• Charismatic stage presence and engaging the audience
• Can either read notated music and / or learn music from records
• Latin roots desirable but not essential

3. Trumpet, Fiesta Latina

Fiesta Latina is our newer 1 - 4 piece Latin salsa party production. There is no sheet music and the performance is largely improvised. You will be performing alongside vocalist, pianist and percussionist, and the musical direction / repertoire is led by the vocalist. This role places more emphasis on improvisation and spontaneity.​

Requirements

This role places a strong emphasis in 2 experience areas: 1) improvisation, 2) knowledge and experience of salsa and Latin styles of playing.

• Experience of salsa and Latin music, including improvising and composing mambo patterns

Offers

​We quote for the following minimum* performance fees:

• From £105 per performer (4-piece)
• From £110 per performer (3-piece)
• From £115 per performer (2-piece)

*Please note performance fees increase accordingly:
+£5.00 per decrease in lineup (4-piece down)
+£10.00 per increase in zone (distance from London / SW1A)
+10% per decrease in notice (Early Bird, Advance, Full)
Rates may vary for nominal deal codes (where the deal is stipulated by the promoter).
